Hi I’m Steph and the new team member at Carevets Chartwell. I am a UK trained and qualified Veterinary Nurse and have a Certificate in Adult Teaching and Education.

I have been in the industry for 30 odd years, having worked in the UK and Australia with my Veterinarian husband Neil. We came to NZ in August 1991 and have been here ever since. I worked at Chartwell many years ago as a Orthopaedic Specialist Nurse, so I am familiar with the clinic.

I am the Consulting Nurse, and have a particular interest in behaviour, especially cats – kitten kindy and puppy preschool, nutrition, senior pet stages and post – operative care. I like to use low stress handling techniques for all cats and recognise they are very different to dogs. I enjoy engaging with the clients and using my skills to educate and inform.

Most of my career in NZ has been as a Veterinary Nursing tutor at Wintec. I was the Program Manager there for many years so have a strong teaching background. I am involved with Vetstart at Massey helping to transition the new Vet students into student/Vet life. More recently I worked in rural mixed practice in Te Kuiti as clinic manager, mentor to 2 new Grad Vets and senior Veterinary Nurse. We live on a lifestyle block outside Te Awamutu, and I breed Arabian horses on a small scale. My husband Neil is the Dairy Resource Manager for the DCV/NZVA and a large animal Veterinarian at Vetora.

We have 3 children, one a Geologist, one is an international Polo player/helicopter pilot based in the UK and our youngest is at Hamilton Girls High School – year 13 and is off to study Law at Auckland University next year.

We have a variety of animals which keep us busy! I am fit and active and enjoy road and mountain biking, walking and being involved with Endurance riding.
