Dr Berend Westera

Hi, my name is Berend and I have been with CareVets since 2016. I enjoy working with all sorts of animals, having worked as a Zoo vet for many years. I look after the birds at NZ Bird Rescue as well as the wildlife at Butterfly Creek.

I enjoy seeing birds, reptiles, rabbits and rodents as well as fish. I have worked with animals for many many years and still love it very much.

In my spare time, I enjoy bushwalking, swimming, surfing and the company of my pets.

Samantha Overington

Samantha is a Vet Nurse / Receptionist with us.

She is a mum to four young boys and has a passion for animals.

Currently studying her Diploma of Vet Nursing at EIT we look forward to her graduation at the end of 2020.

In her limited “spare time” she enjoys family time outdoors and some time spent doing art.

Chloe has been with us since 2016. She has two dogs and a female ginger cat but would take all the animals home with her if she could!

Natalie Christensen

Natalie Christensen

Natalie (Natt) achieved her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing through UCOL in Palmerston North in 2014. She joined the CareVets team in June 2019 as a full-time senior Veterinary Nurse.

Natt enjoys the hands on role with animals and their owners and loves being able to build a rapport with both of them. She has a keen interest in canine behaviour and animal nutrition – especially the use of diets for therapeutic reasons.

Natt has a Pitbull named Maverick and a Rottweiler named Serenity who keep her busy on her days off!

Kerri Richards

Kerri achieved her NZCAT (New Zealand Certificate in Animal Technology – Vet Nursing) from Eastern Institute of Technology in 2016.

She joined the CareVets Kapiti team in December 2018. Kerri enjoys all aspects of nursing but especially enjoys dealing with the neonates that come into the clinic and supportive care to hospitalised patients.

Kerri has four cats – Serge, Dr Phibes, Vincent (all Domestic Short Hair) and Lily who is a Persian X Manx. In her spare time she enjoys doing craft, crochet and playing Squash.

Nicole Harrington

Nicole is a Senior Veterinary Nurse and moved from Auckland to the Hawke’s Bay in 2014. She has been part of the CareVets team since 2017.

She has a Certificate in Animal Care, Certificate in Animal Technology and a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing.

She loves taking her dogs Eli and Kirby to the beautiful Hawke’s Bay beaches and parks.

Dr Gina Robinson DVM

Dr Gina Robertson DVM Veterinarian at CareVets Porirua

Gina graduated from Kansas State University, achieving her DVM qualification in 1997. Gina joined the CareVets Porirua team in March 2019 as Senior Veterinarian, bringing more than twenty years of experience working in the Veterinary profession with her.

Gina loves having the opportunity to improve the lives of her patients and their owners every day. She is particularly passionate about promoting total well-being, from preventative care and providing nutrition and behavioural advice, to treating illness and injury where necessary.

Gina has quite the collection of pets at home including dogs, cats, sheep, pigs, horses and chickens! When not at work, Gina continues to be an advocate for animal welfare. She also participates in equestrian sporting events, enjoys spending time with friends and family, and can often be found cooking up a storm in the kitchen creating tasty vegan dishes!

Dr Robyn de Lange

Originally from Hamilton, Robyn completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Sciences at Massey University in Palmerston North.

In her spare time she loves to go skiing as well as sailing at the local beaches.

Leigh Akuhata-Brown

Leigh is currently studying to be a vet nurse.

When Leigh is not caring for your pets and greeting you on reception she is a photographer and helps out on the farm.

She also loves anything ‘horsey’ and spending time with her family and many pets!

Vicky McKay

Vicky is a familiar face who has been on reception at CareVets Gisborne since 2012.

She enjoys taking her dog Scooby for walks on the beach at sunset.

Rena Van Diest

Rena is a qualified veterinary nurse and has been working in vet care since 2012.

She has one dog that is her baby. Rena enjoys getting out in nature and exploring!

Dr Alyse Stewart, BVSc

Alyse completed her Bachelor of Veterinary Science at Massey University in 2012. Since graduating, she has lived in Gisborne practicing as a mixed animal and now a companion animal veterinarian. She has a special interest in working dogs.

She enjoys travelling, running and spending time with her husband, two dogs and five cats!

Zaria Haggland

Zaria graduated from Otago Polytechnic in 2017, the same year she joined the CareVets team.

In her spare time she enjoys doing DIY on her house and hanging out with her furbabies!

Jaimee Treloar

Jaimee lives on a sheep and beef station with her partner, two cats, four working dogs and a Kunekune pig! She has been nursing since the beginning of 2017 when she joined the CareVets team.

In her spare time you will find Jaimee out on the farm, hunting, fishing or immersed in a DIY project.

Dr Teresa Lee DVM

Dr Teresa Lee started with our CareVets team in January 2019.

Teresa graduated from the University of California, Davis in 2003.

She has worked as a veterinarian for many years in the United States and Hong Kong in both private practice and animal shelters.

Teresa has a special interest in snorkeling, snowboarding, hiking, literature and movies.

When not working hard Teresa enjoys sightseeing around our beautiful country and taking care of her elderly dog, Eddie.

Dr. Melissa McMiken BVSc

Melissa McMiken

I graduated from Massey University in 2008 with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science. I have since enjoyed working in various small animal practices around Auckland, and joined the team in February 2019 after having my second son.

I have two pussycats, a grey and brown Maine Coon, Kitty Babushka, and a little black domestic medium hair, Minnie moo moo!

Dr Petra Hall

Petra is our senior vet at the Napier clinic. She earned her qualification in Hanover, Germany. She has over thirty years’ experience and has worked in companion animal medicine in Germany as well as New Zealand.

Petra has a special interest in behavioural therapy, holistic animal care and loves to see all our wonderful clients and their lovely pets.

In her spare time Petra can be found horse riding and spending time with her Kiwi husband and two teenage sons. She has a Fjord horse, two dogs and one cat.

Holly Trimmer

Holly joined the CareVets Kapiti team in July 2018 as a part-time receptionist, and she also assists our nursing team to look after our hospitalised patients. Holly achieved a Certificate in Animal Technology in 2018 through Weltec and enjoys using the knowledge she has learned during the course to help nurse our patients back to full health and educate our clients, making it a positive experience for all involved.
She has a special interest in companion animal behaviour and management of chronic illnesses and likes working alongside our Vets to ensure patient comfort at all times.

Holly currently has one cat of her own called Oscar. When not working with the CareVets team, Holly likes to keep busy and can often be found volunteering her services at The Nest Te Kohanga at Wellington Zoo.

Dr Denita Rodrigues

Note: Denita is on maternity leave until December 2020.

Hi, My name is Denita. I am one of the Veterinarians at CareVets Mt Wellington.  I graduated from Massey University with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science degree in 2012 and joined the CareVets team in 2017.

My interests are Soft Tissue Surgery and Internal Medicine.

I spend my free time with my family and our Cavoodle, Lola.

Linda Inkpen

Linda achieved her Class 1 Veterinary Technician qualification through the Royal Army Veterinary Corp in the British Army in 1994. After relocating to New Zealand, Linda settled in Wellington and joined the CareVets Kilbirnie team in November 2015 as Clinic Manager. Linda is responsible for the smooth running of the clinic and enjoys interacting with staff and clients who come through the doors. She also likes to keep her hand in on her clinical work and has a special interest in emergency medicine and surgery cases. She also has an interest in companion animal behaviour and is able to offer advice to clients in need.
In her spare time, Linda enjoys relaxing at home reading, watching movies and knitting or socialising with friends and playing squash. She also enjoys camping and travel, and spending time with her cat and three dogs.

Dr Sara Ashby BVSc

Sara graduated with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science from Massey University in 2016. Although she enjoyed life on the coast and working as a small animal vet in Otaki, she was very excited to move back home to friends and family in Wellington and join the CareVets Kilbirnie team in March 2017. Sara enjoys all aspects of veterinary science and has a particular interest in feline medicine.
Outside of work she likes to head for the hills and is looking forward to exploring the many walkways and tracks Wellington has to offer with her greyhound, Peaches, in tow!

Jason Harris CertVN

Jason achieved his certificate in Veterinary Nursing through Weltec in Petone and joined the CareVets Kilbirnie team in October 2016. He now splits his time between our Kilbirnie and Wainuiomata clinics. Jason enjoys all aspects of his job, but particularly enjoys nursing emergency trauma cases and sharing success stories of animals surviving overwhelming odds. Jason has a special interest in veterinary diagnostics, surgery, and feline medicine – he has a bit of a soft spot for elderly cats!
During his spare time, Jason likes to relax at home and loves nothing better than spending time reading a good book, listening to music or sitting in-front of the TV. He also enjoys a bit of DIY and home renovation. Jason has a number of pets at home including three cats, Puss, Queen and Belle, two goldfish, Fish and Chips, and two axolotls, Gwok and Molly.

Sam Wilding DipVN

Sam achieved her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing through UCOL in Palmerston North and joined the CareVets Kilbirnie team soon after qualifying in June 2018. Sam loves every aspect of her job from nursing the most challenging of cases right down to cleaning the clinic. She has a particular interest in nursing geriatric feline patients and helping her clients care for their elderly pets.
During her spare time, Sam enjoys taking part in a number of activities including running, netball, bush walking, swimming and water-skiing, or spending time with friends. Sam also enjoys spending time with her own pets and currently has four cats and a dog.

Dr Linda Broad BVSc

 

Linda originally studied at Victoria University of Wellington and achieved a BSc in Biochemistry / BSc (Hons) Physiology before returning to academia and gaining her veterinary qualification, graduating with the year of 1988 from Massey University with a Bachelor of Veterinary Science.  Linda was the original owner of Kilbirnie Animal Health Centre & Cattery before selling to CareVets in November 2015, and thankfully, she stayed with us!
Linda really enjoys forming relationships with her clients and their pets and has been fortunate enough to establish long-term relationships with many of her clients over the many years she had been based in Kilbirnie.  Linda is particularly interested in oncology, soft tissue surgery and pain mangement. 

She currently has quite the collection of animals at home, including a pack of Curly Coated Retrievers, cats, goats, pigs, cows, chickens, ducks & geese.  In her spare time, Linda breeds and shows her Curly Coated Retrievers and also enjoys gardening and cooking.
