CareVets Chartwell has a suite of medical, diagnostic and surgical facilities along with a range of pet food and supplies. Our experienced Senior Vet team can provide over 30 years of knowledge and experience, to help you make the best decision for your pet’s health and treatment plan. We can help with a sore tooth, a mystery lump, an itchy paw and everything in between. We have a team of qualified Veterinary Nurses that offer Nurse Consultations and are only too happy to give you advice on diets, life-stage care, weight-loss clinics and FREE dental checks.

We also offer puppy preschool to help teach your newest canine family member the basics and offer a safe environment for early socialisation.

Dr Ivan Aleksic

Head Veterinarian

Ivan has extensive experience in all aspects of small animal medicine and surgery, and has been with the Chartwell team for over 20 years. He has a special interest in small animal ultrasonography, a service he provides to The Referral Centre specialist clinic. Outside of work Ivan loves his family and sports, with a particular passion for squash.

Dr Thomas Wanden

Senior Veterinarian

Thomas has worked with the Chartwell team since 2009 and has a wealth of experience in general practice. He has a special interest in Opthalmology. Outside of work Thomas loves gaming, cars and married life.

Dr Devon Bree
BVSc (Dist)
Veterinarian

Dr Devon joined the Chartwell team as a Veterinarian in February 2023. Dr Devon graduated from Massey University at the end of 2022 and will be at our Chartwell clinic Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and at our Hamilton South branch Thursday and Friday. Dr Devon has a young Golden Retriever and a Lovebird at home. She grew up in Hamilton and in her free time enjoys anything outdoorsy including scuba diving! She is enjoys video games. Her favourite animal is a snake and her least favourite food are tomatoes!

Dr Valencia Tan

Veterinarian

Dr Valencia joined the Chartwell team as a Veterinarian at the end of February 2023. Graduating at the end of 2022, Valencia is based full-time at our Chartwell branch learning under Dr Ivan Aleksic. Valencia has 2 cats named Leon & Benji at home. Her favourite movie is Harry Potter & she also enjoys watching Korean drama TV series. In her spare time, Valencia likes to watch Netflix, cook & bake and hang out with friends and family.

Clinic Coordinator / Senior Veterinary Nurse

Sarah has nearly 20 years experience as a Veterinary Nurse and has grown her experience more recently in her Clinic Coordinator role. She has a special interest in dentistry, continuing education and promoting best care. Outside of work she loves spending time with her family, running her lifestyle block and anything to do with horses!

Senior Veterinary Nurse

Kim has been with CareVets since 2017 and a few years combined with The Referral Centre, assisting with orthopaedics. She has a passion for surgical nursing and anything to do with cats! In her spare time Kim is a serious gamer and avid watcher of Netflix while relaxing with her cats and partner.

Senior Veterinary Nurse

Monique has worked with the team at Chartwell since 2008, starting as a student and pregressing to a leadership role before starting her family and moving to a part-time position. She has a passion for surgical nursing and patient aftercare. Outside of work Monique loves spending time with her husband, two little girls and her fur-babies.

Rosie

Senior Veterinary Nurse

Rosie worked for the Waikato After Hours Veterinary Hospital for 3 years prior to joining the team at Chartwell, and subsequently was promoted to Head Nurse. She has a passion for internal medicine, teaching upcoming students and animal behaviour. In her spare time, Rosie loves spending time with her family, including her beloved, famous dogs and her herd of horses. She likes to be involved in show jumping and eventing in her free time.

Cassie

Veterinary Nurse Assistant

Cassie is a Diploma qualified Vet Nurse that has been with the team since 2022 while she studied and is now advancing her skills in surgery and medical nursing. Cassie is famous in-clinic for hand-raising ducklings from eggs to maturity. She has 2 cute kitties, Clover & Frank and lives on a lifestyle block with 5 Alpacas! When she is not working Cassie loves to play Netball and hang out with friends and family.

Natalie
Veterinary Nurse Assistant / Reception

Natalie has completed her Rural Animal Tech Certificate and will soon finish her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing. She enjoys the surgical aspect of Veterinary Nursing the most! When time allows, Natalie loves spending time on the family farm. She also spends a lot of time painting and has an interest in photography.

Katie

Receptionist / Veterinary Nurse

Katie gained her Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in 2022. She has a special interest in in fostering kittens from bottle feeding babies to weaned kittens ready for re-home (or foster fails). She is interested in advancing her knowledge on animal behaviour and therapeutic massage for dogs. In her spare time Katie loves hanging out with her pets (when she’s not collecting new ones), baking and cooking, collecting succulents, watching true crime documentaries and singing badly to 80s music!

Head Receptionist / Retail

Many of our regular clients recognise Cameron’s friendly face from his time with us previously or from SPCA where he worked in animal welfare for 8 years, including a stint in Rarotonga! Cam spends his time outside of CareVets volunteering for Hamilton Firefighters and treating himself to some well-deserved R&R.

Matthew
Receptionist / Veterinary Nurse Assistant

Matthew joined the Chartwell team in 2022 after completing work experience as a student Veterinary Nurse. Outside of work he loves gaming, has a ‘mild’ shopping addiction and loves a bikkie with a good cuppa.

Theresa

Receptionist

Theresa has worked with the Chartwell team since 2017, progressing to Head Receptionist before starting a family and moving to a part-time role. She has come from a varied animal related occupational background including kennels, catteries and research/production farms. She has a keen interest in animal behaviour and welfare. Outside of work Theresa loves spending time with her family and dog, Moya. She is also currently working towards her Diploma of Professional Photography.

Sarah
Administrator

Sarah holds a Certificate in Accounting and a Certificate in Dog Psychology and Training. She has a special interest in dog behaviour and obedience and runs our Puppy Preschool here at Chartwell. She is currently continuing her education in working towards a Diploma in Accounting. Outside of work Sarah loves to spend time with family, reading and doing behavioural training with her dog.

Yvonne
Professional Groomer

Yvonne is the longest standing member of the Chartwell team with over 22 years with Chartwell designing dogs. She is lovingly referred to at “Nanny”. Outside of work Yvonne loves spending time with her family, fur babies and dog sitting small breed dogs.
