Our Team:

Dr Jim Janse
BVSc
Veterinarian

Dr Jim joined the Hobsonville team at the end of 2022. He has a special interest in medical imaging and is our resident sonographer. He has a real heart for all the animals he meets. He recently adopted a 300gram kitten from the SPCA who now plays with his French Bulldog and three other beautiful, cuddly, Burmese cats.

Dr Sashika Navaratne
BVSc
Veterinarian

Dr Sashika joined the Hobsonville team in early 2025, bringing with her six years of veterinary experience from Sri Lanka. Before obtaining her veterinary license in New Zealand, she worked as an emergency nurse in a busy emergency clinic, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in critical care. She has a keen interest in emergency medicine and dentistry and enjoys connecting with pets and their people every day. Outside the clinic, Sashika is a proud mum of two. She loves spending time with her family, exploring the natural beauty of New Zealand, and recharging with travel and relaxation. She’s also planning to welcome a cat and a dog into her family soon—extending her passion for animals beyond her professional life.

Amanda
Clinic Coordinator / Veterinary Nurse

Amanda has been working as a Veterinary Nurse for the last 8 years on Waiheke Island, Kos (Greece), Tauranga and now at CareVets Hobsonville since the clinic opened in 2020. She graduated with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing from Unitec in 2019. Amanda has an SPCA dog named Yogi, a Flemish Giant named Spike and an old tortoishell cat, Pippi. Amanda is originally from Riverhead and has enjoyed returning to the area and meeting the clients and pets in Hobsonville and surrounding areas. In her spare time Amanda and Yogi can be found strolling on Muriwai or trail running in the Riverhead Forest.

Catherine
Lead Veterinary Nurse

Catherine comes from a varied working background where she worked for many years in the travel industry, IRD and lastly as a criminal case manager at Auckland District Court before deciding to further her study and train to be a Vet Nurse. She is the proud fur-mother to 3 male cats and is a firm believer in animal welfare and their right to have access to the best of care. She enjoys cross stitch, travelling to new places, baking, and watching documentaries, mostly about serial killers and world disasters. Coffee is her God.

Amy
Veterinary Nurse

Amy officially joined the CareVets Hobsonville team full-time at the end of 2024 after working part-time during her studies. Now a fully qualified Veterinary Nurse, she’s excited to begin her career and continue developing her skills across all areas of the clinic. Whether she’s at reception, assisting in surgery, caring for hospital patients, or performing in-house diagnostics, Amy brings enthusiasm and a strong desire to learn. With a background surrounded by working dogs, Amy has a keen interest in animal behaviour and rehabilitation, and she’s passionate about helping animals live their best lives. At home, she shares her life with three beloved pets — Marli, her border collie cross rescue, Shelby, a high-energy Labrador Retriever, and Ellie the cat. In her spare time, Amy enjoys playing sport, baking, getting outdoors, and curling up with a good book.

Roxy
Veterinary Nurse

Roxy re-joined the Hobsonville team in early 2025, bringing her warmth, experience, and passion for animal care. Since graduating with a Diploma in Veterinary Nursing in 2022, she has loved supporting both pets and their owners, with a special focus on helping animals thrive both physically and mentally. Outside of work, Roxy enjoys the great outdoors with her two dogs, Ivy and Welly. She also fosters kittens, hits the gym, gets lost in a good book, or explores her creative side through various craft projects.

Tia
Veterinary Nurse

Tia has always had a passion for animals and has worked in a variety of animal related fields until she found her interest in the veterinary world. She completed her first year in the Veterinary Nursing Diploma in 2022 and is looking forward to completing the course in 2023. She enjoys looking after hospital patients and strives to give pets the best care and attention they need while in the veterinary clinic. She also enjoys surgery and assisting the veterinarian. Outside of the clinic, Tia loves relaxing at home with her family, cuddles with her cat Sylvester, horse riding, and travel with her friends.
